Java's Place on the AS/400 Is Secure
Product News
July 1998
Strategi is a native AS/400 server and Java client applet that makes use of 128-bit secure sockets layer (SSL) encryption and digital authentication for 5250 emulation and and for transferring host-generated reports and files across the Internet.
The Strategi client applet, which is less than 80K in size, provides full native AS/400 services such as printing, file transfer, and data queue access. Since the Strategi server runs natively on the AS/400, it can take advantage of the performance capabilities of the higher-end systems.
The product's security features allow the AS/400 to identify clients through the use of digital certificates and allow users to privatize data with the 128-bit SSL encryption. OS/400 Version 3 Release 7 (V3R7) and up and later edition Web browsers are needed to use the digital certificate capability. (The software can run on V3R1 and up otherwise.)
In addition, Strategi incorporates the technology of BusinessLink/PUSH. Through the "push" capability, host-generated reports and files are sent directly to the browser. Even better, no knowledge of AS/400 spool file operations is required.
