ADVANCE TO JAVA
January 1998
Among companies exploring the use of the Internet in general and Java-based terminal emulation in particular, concerns which are often raised include printing, file transfer and security.
Printing and file transfer fall outside the remit of the Java language, which is designed not to write directly to the client environment. What is needed is an applet-based approach which supplements the strengths of Java with file transfer and printing facilities; this is the approach taken by ADVANCED BusinessLink's BusinessLink for Java.
Security is an ever-present topic in discussing connectivity over the Internet. ADVANCED BusinessLink's perspective is that there are three main risk areas:
· Protecting the host from external attack
· Keeping secret the data being transmitted
· Verifying the claimed identity of the client
Comprehensive security requires solid protection against all three risks. If any of these were breached , the others are inadequate or useless. Specific technology is therefore built in to BusinessLink/Java to address all these areas.
BusinessLink/Java is included in BusinessLink/Web, part of ADVANCED BusinessLink's range of Internet and remote connectivity solutions.
