ADVANCED BUSINESSLINK FIRST WITH WML AS/400 APPLICATIONS

Kirkland WA, Nov 24th, 1999

ADVANCED BusinessLink, developers of leading e-business middleware for the IBM AS/400, has released a new wireless application capability in its Strategi middleware.

Bringing the rapidly emerging WML standard to the AS/400, BusinessLink's latest innovation makes it simple for AS/400 sites to be online service providers for the newest, hottest web application platform.

WML is the basis for browser technology in the emerging web enabled cell phone and PDA browser market.

Sprint(TM) recently launched a wireless web service in the USA (http://www.sprintpcs.com/wireless) where all of its digital PCS phones are essentially mini web browsers. These browsers cannot access traditional HTML-based web sites, but need purpose-built WML (or HDML) web sites in order to operate.

"Strategi instantly turns any AS/400 into a WML capable server and allows AS/400 applications to converse interactively with a low cost, readily available device" said Chris Lategan, ADVANCED BusinessLink CEO.

Wireless business to mobile workforce applications include sales force automation, CRM, courier/despatch, service/repair, inspectors and assessors.

Wireless business to consumer applications like reservations, online ordering (from pizza to theater tickets) make any cell phone user a potential source of profit for Strategi sites.

Strategi-powered AS/400 sales force applications could allow reps to look at their specific appointment schedule, access and dial a client with a single button. Once there, product availability is readily available, then at the press of a button, the AS/400 can generate and email a quote or place an order containing the specific products of interest - all from an inexpensive cell phone.

Installation takes less around 15 minutes and requires no prerequisite front end hardware or software. Strategi is 100% native AS/400 software.

Programmers with any AS/400 programming language skills (RPG, Java, C, CL, COBOL, etc) can build WML-based business processes using Strategi. Typically, existing AS/400 applications can be extended to provide wireless services in a few days. Rather than changing or converting existing applications, they will simply have an alternate, cut-down, wireless interface

BusinessLink can contract with customers to rapidly build WML extensions to their applications or provide the necessary training for existing AS/400 developers.

Pricing, starts at under $10k based on concurrency. Availability Immediate.
